KIEV, October 17 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has presented boxer Vitali Klitschko with a state award recognizing his services to Ukraine, the presidential press service said on Friday.

"Vitali Klitschko has been presented with the award for outstanding achievements in sport, courage, selflessness, and will to win, as well as for strengthening Ukraine's authority in the world," the press service said.

Ukraine's WBC heavyweight boxing champion Klitschko, 37, hung up his gloves in November 2005 due to an injury to his right knee, but announced his comeback last year. He regained his WBC belt on Saturday in Germany by beating Samuel Peter, dubbed the Nigerian Nightmare.
