MOSCOW, January 29 (RIA Novosti) - Serena Williams proved too strong for Russia's Elena Dementieva in the first women's semifinal of the Australian Open as the Beijing Olympic gold medalist lost 6:3 6:4 at Melbourne Park on Thursday.

The 27-year-old Muscovite, who suffered her first loss in 15 games, said in an interview after the game that she felt she may not have been aggressive enough in the match.

"I think Serena played really well today. I think I was maybe not aggressive enough and maybe I was playing not deep enough, which allowed her to be very aggressive and dictate the game," Dementieva was quoted on the tournament website as saying.

All Russia's hopes now lie with Dinara Safina, seeded three, and Vera Zvonareva, the seventh seed, who are playing in the second semifinal.
