CSKA fans held after illegally crossing Ukrainian border

MOSCOW, March 19 (RIA Novosti) - A group of CSKA Moscow fans were detained by border guards on Thursday after illegally crossing into Ukraine, the UNIAN news agency said.

The incident occurred in the Derhachevskiy District of the Ukraine's Kharkiv Region. Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk host CSKA Moscow in a UEFA Cup, second round tie on Thursday evening.

The Russian fans explained that two of their group had lacked the correct documentation to cross the border. While Russian nationals do not require visas to enter Ukraine, border guards refused to accept a photocopy of one of the men's passports and the military service record card offered by the other.

The men then left the train in a group and decided to illegally enter the former Soviet Republic.

CSKA lead 1-0 from the first leg.
