Russia was defeated 2:1 in overtime and penalty shots by Slovakia during the Olympic men's hockey preliminary in Group B.

The game was tied at 1:1 during the overtime bout, but after a series of penalty shots, Slovakia's Pavol Demitra brought in the final penalty puck, winning the game with 2:1.

During the fifth minute of the second half, Russia's team captain Alexei Morozov made the first goal of the game in an assist with teammate Andrei Markov. Slovakia's Marian Hossa tied the game with a goal near the end of the third in the 9th minute.

The game went into overtime, but without any goals to break the tie. Slovakia's Demitra ended the game during penalty shots, making the game-winning goal.

Russia leads in Group B and will face the Czech Republic on Sunday.
