Olympic diary: Day 14 brings no medals for Russia, Canada beats U.S. in women's ice hockey final, Belarus grabs first gold

With no medals won on the 14th day of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Russia remains in 10th place in the overall medal count.

Russia's medal hopes were pinned on the women's cross country skiing relay on Thursday, but the Russian quartet put in a surprisingly poor performance, finishing only eighth, with Norway claiming its seventh gold at the Games.

Belarus' Alexei Grishin won the men's freestyle skiing aerials, bringing his country its first gold medal.

The U.S., Canada, South Korea grabbed the gold medals in the Nordic combined event, the women's ice hockey and the women's figure-skating.

Norway wins women's cross-country skiing relay

Norway won the women's cross country skiing relay at the Vancouver Winter Olympics on Thursday, ahead of Germany and Finland.

Russia's team finished eighth, leaving it with just one gold medal, one silver and two bronze in the cross-country skiing with just two events remaining. Russia has never won less than two cross-country golds at the Winter Games.

The Norwegian team completed the four 5 km legs in 55:19.5, with the Germans 24.6 seconds behind and the Finns a further 5.8 seconds back.

The Russian quartet - Olga Zavjalova, Irina Khazova, Evgenia Medvedev and Natalia Korosteleva - was 1 minute 41.4 seconds off the pace.

The U.S. takes gold, silver in Nordic combined

Americans Bill Demong and Johnny Spillane on Thursday won the gold and silver medals respectively in the Nordic combined large hill/ 10 km cross country event at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Austria's Bernhard Gruber grabbed the bronze.

Canada beats United States in women's ice hockey

Canada beat the United States 2-0 on Thursday to grab the gold medal in the women's ice hockey final at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Canada's Marie-Philip Poulin shot the puck into the Americans' net twice, in the 14th and 17th minutes of the match.

Silver will go home with the United States, and bronze goes to Finland.

South Korea's figure skating success

South Korea's Kim Yu-na won the gold medal in figure-skating on Thursday at the Vancouver Winter Olympics with a record score.

Yu-na's total score was 228.56 points.

Japan's Mao Asada took the silver, scoring 205.5 points. Canada's Joannie Rochette grabbed the bronze with 202.64.

Russians Alena Leonova and Ksenia Makarova took the ninth and tenth places with 172.46 and 171.91 points respectively.
