'Russian Giant' Nikolai Valuev (50-2, 34 KOs) said on Friday he might square off against Ukraine's WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali 'Dr. Ironfist' Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs) this fall.

'Russian Giant' Nikolai Valuev (50-2, 34 KOs) said on Friday he might square off against Ukraine's WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali 'Dr. Ironfist' Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs) this fall.

"I recently met Vitaly in St. Petersburg and he made an explicit proposal to fight in Germany in October, which suits me fine," the former WBA Russian heavyweight champion said.

He said it is still too early to talk about the final agreement of the fight as many details are still to be settled.

"For me October would be a perfect time for the fight, but I do not want to make plans yet," Valuev said.

BoxingScene.com reported earlier that the 38-year-old Ukrainian boxer and his wife traveled to St. Petersburg over the last weekend and personally met with Valuev.

"It wasn't my goal for going there. I had scheduled several meetings of a personal nature, and besides, I was together with my wife Natalia," Klitschko was quoted as saying.

Klitschko team earlier offered Valuev $2.5 million in prize money for the fight, but veteran promoter of the Russian boxer Don King refused saying he wanted $4 million.

"It is always better to communicate without intermediaries so the information is not distorted. The fewer middlemen, the better," Klitschko said about his personal meeting with Valuev. This time round, he offered $1.5 million.

"I'm not going to bargain. If he refuses this offer, I'll box against another contender - someone who is high up in the rankings. For Nikolai, motivation should be enough. He gets the opportunity to fight for the most prestigious championship belt, which was once owned by Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis," Klitschko added.

Klitschko announced in February his plans to abandon professional boxing this year.
