CSKA Moscow and Russia midfielder Alan Dzagoev could miss the rest of the season with a broken toe, the club said Thursday.

Dzagoev will be out for at least six weeks with the injury, which will severely hamper the Russia international’s preparations for Euro 2012.

The midfielder underwent an operation in Germany yesterday, after suffering the injury while playing all 90 minutes of CSKA’s 2-0 defeat to title rivals Lokomotiv Moscow on Saturday, the club said.

“In four weeks’ time, the Army Club midfielder will undergo an examination in Germany, and if there are no complications, Dzagoev will be able to return to training two weeks after that,” CSKA said on its website.

The estimate suggests he could return for CSKA's last game of the season against Rubin Kazan on May 13, although he may have to wait for Russia's pre-Euro 2012 friendlies later that month.

Dzagoev’s Japanese teammate Keisuke Honda was also examined in Germany yesterday, apparently for a long-running thigh injury.

Doctors chose not to operate, but it is not clear when he will return, the club said.

CSKA currently sit second in the Russian Premier League table, seven points behind Zenit and one ahead of Lokomotiv.

CSKA next play Dan Petrescu’s FC Kuban away on Saturday.
