WBA interim cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev will fight Jean-Marc Mormeck in June, the Russian’s promoter Vladimir Hrunov said Thursday.
Lebedev knocked out Barbadian challenger Shawn Cox in the second round in his first title defense Wednesday.
“Denis’ next fight will take place in Paris in the first week of June with the Frenchman Jean-Marc Mormeck,” Hrunov said.
Mormeck is a former WBA and WBC cruiserweight champion but was knocked out by Wladimir Klitschko last month while challenging for the Ukrainian’s four world heavyweight belts.
Lebedev said he would start preparing to face the Frenchman, who has a 36(22)-5 record.
“It’s time for Mormeck. That means we’ll get ready for him,” he said.
The fight will be Mormeck’s first bout at cruiserweight since he lost his titles to Britain’s David Haye in November 2007.
Lebedev has won all but one of his 25 professional fights, 18 of them by knockout.
