The transfer window for Russian football’s top flight will close four days earlier than expected, Russian Premier League sports director Igor Meshchanchuk said Tuesday.
Clubs will only be able to register players until September 6, rather than September 10, as had earlier been stated by the league’s executive director Sergei Cheban, Meshchanuk said.
By this time each side will have played seven matches.
“The registration period will last until September 6. During this period clubs may file applications for players from any professional football league to participate in the tournament,” Meshchanchuk said.
This summer’s transfer window has been relatively quiet so far, with Spartak Moscow signing Brazil international midfielder Romulo and CSKA Moscow completing a deal for Brazilian defender Mario Fernandes.
Champions Zenit St. Petersburg and big-spending Anzhi have both focused on youth, with Anzhi’s biggest signing Ivorian striker Lacina Traore, in stark contrast to their swoop for Samuel Eto’o last year.
