Captain First Class Ildar Akhmerov talked to journalists in Moscow via a TV link-up and discussed the results of an operation to save the crew of the Moscow University tanker seized by Somalian pirates.

On Wednesday, Somalian pirates seized the Moscow University, a tanker with 23 Russian sailors aboard.

The next morning, the Russian Navy’s Marshal Shaposhnikov anti-submarine warfare (ASW) ship involved in an international anti-piracy mission off the Somalian coast came to the rescue. Commandos stormed the tanker, killed one pirate and arrested ten more.
