ASTANA, July 5 (RIA Novosti) - The heads of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member-states signed seven documents at their Tuesday summit in the Kazakh capital, Astana.
The documents signed included a joint declaration; a Concept for SCO Cooperation against Terrorism, Separatism and Extremism; a Provision on Permanent Representatives of SCO Member States in Regional Anti-Terrorist Structures; a report of the structure's council on 2004 activities.
Pakistan, India and Iran were granted observer status in the SCO.
The SCO was created in Shanghai on June 15, 2001. The organization's founding declaration says that it was established to strengthen states mutual trust, friendship and good-neighborliness among the member, promote effective cooperation in the political, trade and economic, scientific and technical, cultural, education, energy, transport, ecological and other spheres, enhance peace, stability and security efforts in the region, and build a new democratic, just and rational political and economic international order.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization comprises Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
