TEHRAN, August 5 (RIA Novosti, Nikolai Terekhov) - The "EU troika" (Britain, France, and Germany) handed Iran a package of proposals aimed at resolving the issue of its nuclear program.

"Ambassadors of the three countries have given Iranian officials a package of proposals aimed at finding a way out of the deadlock in the situation with Iran's nuclear program," local news agencies reported Friday, citing an informed official at the EU-Iranian talks.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi confirmed that Iran had received the package of European proposals.

"The Iranian leadership, including members of the Supreme National Security Council, will discuss [the proposals] Friday and Saturday and make a decision," the spokesman said.

Iran expected to receive the EU package on July 31 according to prior agreements. However, the "EU troika" postponed the delivery of the proposals, and the Iranian authorities decided to resume activities at the Isfahan nuclear facility, notifying the IAEA of their decision on August 1.

The EU, IAEA, and the UN urged Iran to reconsider the resumption of operations at Isfahan, threatening to withdraw from negotiations and to submit the Iranian "nuclear dossier" to the UN Security Council for possible sanctions against the country.

EU officials called an emergency meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors to discuss Iran's true intentions in terms of its uranium enrichment program.

Tehran stated on numerous occasions that the package of proposals must include the resumption of Iran's uranium enrichment program and take into account its interest in the development of a full nuclear fuel cycle. The EU and U.S. are firmly against Iran's position, fearing that "peaceful" nuclear programs could be easily converted for military use.
