TBILISI, August 26 (RIA Novosti) - The summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) leaders is a good opportunity to hold regular discussions since the member-states share a common history and issues, Georgia's Foreign Minister said Friday.
Salome Zurabishvili held a news conference in the capital city's airport before she left Georgia with President Mikhail Saakasvili to take part in the CIS summit in Kazan, the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan.
"Though the CIS is not a very influential organization, it plays a definite role, primarily in the economic sphere," Zurabishvili said.
According to the minister, the Georgian president did not plan to hold bilateral meetings with his CIS counterparts in Kazan, though meetings are possible.
