MOSCOW, October 5 (RIA Novosti) - Russia is planning to fit 12 Slovak-owned Soviet MiG-29 fighter jets with devices to bring on-board electric equipment in line with NATO standards, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said Wednesday after talks with his Slovak counterpart Jurai Liska.

The modernization of the fighter planes "is being carried out in accordance with the customer's requirements, and in line with NATO standards... This issue does not pose any difficulties for us, either technical or political," Ivanov said.

Russia is ready to cooperate with Slovakia in the military equipment industry, both on a bilateral and a multilateral basis, and in the interests of NATO countries, but he said, such cooperation needed to be discussed in detail at upcoming meetings between the two countries.

In 2004, Russia delivered military equipment to Slovakia worth $140,000.
