Georgia unveils first military base built to NATO standards

TBILISI, November 19 (RIA Novosti, Marina Kvaratskhelia) - Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili unveiled the first military base built to NATO standards Saturday.

"This is a historic moment for us. It is the first military base in western Georgia and the first Georgian base built to NATO standards," Saakashvili said, addressing personnel of the Second Brigade of the Georgian Defense Ministry that is deployed at the new base.

According to the Georgian president, the new base, in the town of Senaki (western Georgia), was built in record time - seven months. It cost the republic's budget $11 million.

A total of 3,000 servicemen will be deployed at the military base.
