TEHRAN, November 22 (RIA Novosti) - The Iranian parliament has ordered the country's government to end cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) if the Iranian nuclear file is handed to the UN Security Council, Iranian radio reported Tuesday.
The corresponding resolution was approved by 144 parliamentarians, with 52 votes against the measure and 16 abstentions.
A representative of the conservative faction that initiated the resolution said it would be "a convincing response to the West and a warning to the IAEA Board of Governors."
Earlier the country's parliament approved a bill stipulating that Iran would stop all voluntary efforts to resolve the nuclear problem if its nuclear file was transferred to the UN Security Council.
Until recently, Iran has voluntarily observed the additional protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty allowing IAEA inspections of the country's nuclear facilities at short notice and without restrictions.
The Iranian parliament adopted the resolution ahead of the upcoming session of the IAEA Board of Governors scheduled for November 24 that will focus on Iran's nuclear program. Two months ago, the Board of Governors passed a resolution stipulating the transfer of Iran's nuclear file to the UN Security Council.
