KIEV, November 22 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko says the country, celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Orange Revolution Tuesday, could join the World Trade Organization by year's end.
"I am planning to speak with different sides concerned in the process this week and convince them to support Ukraine and reach a positive decision already this year," Yushchenko told foreign journalists.
The president said Ukraine had done most of the work needed to adapt Ukrainian laws to WTO standards.
"We currently comply 80-90% with WTO tariff regulations," he said.
Yushchenko said the laws yet to be adopted by the Supreme Rada, the nation's parliament, for WTO accession were not an insurmountable obstacle and that the country could adopt them during a "transition period" after joining the WTO.
