KIEV, December 1 (RIA Novosti) - The European Union has granted Ukraine market economy status, British Prime Minister Tony Blair said Thursday at a EU-Ukraine summit in Kiev. Blair, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency, said he hoped that the summit would be successful and that Britain and other EU member states would be Ukraine's partners.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said it would take one to two months to settle Ukraine's market economy status legally.
"Most importantly, we have made a clear political decision today," he said adding that Ukraine and the EU had taken relations to a new level.
