Ukrainian-Russian gas price dispute "no tragedy" - Yushchenko

KIEV, December 20 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said Tuesday that Ukraine's ongoing dispute with Russia over the price of natural gas supplies should not be overdramatized. Speaking at a press conference in the capital of Kiev, Yushchenko said the Ukrainian-Russian gas price dispute was "no tragedy," but that its resolution would be a lengthy and costly process.

He said there should be clear logic behind the new pricing system and that the sides needed to agree on a timeframe and instruments for implementing it. He also said the principles of pricing should be the same for Ukraine and other former Soviet republics importing Russian natural gas, such as Georgia, Belarus and Estonia.
