PARIS, January 2 (RIA Novosti, Andrei Nizamutdiniv) - World Trade Organization Director General Pascal Lami said Monday that Ukraine and Russia should pay market prices for energy supplies to ensure effectiveness of their economies.
Amid the unsettled dispute between Russia and Ukraine over the price for Russian natural gas deliveries to and via Ukraine and allegations made by Russian state-run energy giant Gazprom that Ukraine steals Russian gas intended for customers in other European countries, Lami said the situation would have been resolved much easier if both countries were WTO members.
Russia and Ukraine seek joining the WTO this year.
