MOSCOW, January 24 (RIA Novosti) - The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a call Tuesday for a leading European rights organization to increase the transparency of its election monitoring missions.

Spokesman Mikhail Kamynin urged the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to introduce "a clear and 'transparent' procedure for forming election monitoring missions, appointing their heads, determining the number of observers and ensuring the geographic balance of their composition."

Speaking in the run-up to a two-day visit to be made by OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht, the ministry representative said Moscow supported Belgium's position on the earliest possible ratification of the adapted Conventional Forces in Europe Treaty, and the country's efforts to fight organized crime and contribute to the supremacy of the law.

De Gucht will arrive in the Russian capital on January 25.
