Tymoshenko bloc claims vote rigging, to contest Ukraine election results
A representative of the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, which is currently running in second place with over 90% of the votes in, said the Donetsk, Lugansk, Odessa, Zaporozhye regions and the Crimea Autonomous Republic had failed to submit the official results of the elections.
"We are certain that the vote has been rigged in these regions," said Oleh Nadosh, the deputy head of the bloc's campaign staff, in shades of the disputed 2004 presidential vote. "In some [electoral] districts the results have been falsified."
The areas are all in the east and south of the country, where the election's pro-Russian frontrunner, former premier's Viktor Yanukovych's Party of Regions, enjoys high levels of support.
Another official said the Tymoshenko bloc, led by one of the heroes of the 2004 "orange revolution" who then gained fame for her fiery speeches in the frozen capital, would contest the vote in the Central Election Committee and even in court.
With 93.24% of Sunday's vote to the 450-seat Supreme Rada counted, the Party of Regions currently has 31.26% of the vote, followed by Tymoshenko's bloc (22.47%), Our Ukraine (14.48%), the Socialist Party (5.87%) and the Communist Party (3.63%).
