SOFIA, April 28 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine intends to join ongoing NATO operations in Afghanistan, the country's foreign ministry said Friday.
"We are currently negotiating a format for Ukraine's possible involvement in NATO's operation in Afghanistan," Borys Tarasyuk said at an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in the Bulgarian capital.
He said that at the meeting he had confirmed Ukraine's intention to continue its participation in NATO's operations in Kosovo and Sudan, as well as in Mediterranean Sea-based anti-terrorism operation Active Endeavor.
Ukraine also took an active part in operations in postwar Iraq by deploying an 1,800-strong peacekeeping contingent there along with other nations, but withdrew it completely as of December 27, 2005.
