CHISINAU, May 22 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Novosadyuk) - China supports Moldova in its bid to integrate into Europe, a senior Chinese lawmaker said Monday.

Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress standing committee, who arrived in Chisinau Monday to meet with Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin, highlighted Moldova's progress in ensuring political stability, social and economic development and the country's advance along EU integration lines.

"We positively assess and back the Moldovan authorities' prioritization of the way toward European integration and social and economic development," Bangguo said.

Bangguo said exports of Moldovan wine to China could account for a significant share in the countries' trade and economic cooperation. Moldova has been looking to diversify its exports since Russia, a major importer of Molodvan wine, imposed a ban on wine imports from the country on March 27.

"The festival of Moldovan wines in Beijing on November 25-27 will be a good opportunity for the promotion of Moldovan products on Chinese markets," he said.

Both sides were upbeat about positive trends in bilateral trade turnover in the last five years, and emphasized cooperation in the telecommunications sector. In January-March 2006 alone, trade turnover increased 38.27% year on year.

Voronin and Bangguo agreed on coordinating actions to expand into European markets and reiterated their support for their respective countries' territorial integrity.
