ASTANA, May 26 (RIA Novosti) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said Friday he hoped his country would take over the presidency of the world's largest regional security organization in 2009.

"Kazakhstan's presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe would be an important factor to improve the image of this country," Nazarbayev told students in the Kazakh capital, Astana. "This is an ambitious goal and we have assumed high commitments."

Nazarbayev also said he would attend the St. Petersburg summit of the Group of Eight industrialized nations in July that Russia will preside over.

"My participation as Kazakh president may be interesting, as energy and migration issues will be on the agenda," Nazarbayev said.
