Positive atmosphere could help nuclear dispute- Iranian minister

TEHRAN, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Sunday "a positive atmosphere" had been created that could help achieve agreement over Iran's nuclear program at talks with world powers.

Iran's nuclear program has been a source of major controversy since the beginning of the year, as many countries suspect the Islamic Republic of pursuing a covert weapons program under the pretext of civilian research, despite its claims to the contrary.

"The positive atmosphere that has been created over the Iran nuclear file could create the best opportunity to pave the way to reaching an understanding," Mottaki said.

Mottaki said Tehran was seriously and carefully studying a package of proposals from six world powers to settle the Iran nuclear problem.

The United States, France, Germany, Britain, Russia and China have agreed a package of incentives for Iran in return for its consent to halt uranium enrichment. EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana presented the offer to Tehran during his visit to Iran June 6.

"About the package, the assessment has started with precision and seriousness. By the end of the assessment, we will first inform our European counterparts and then the public," Mottaki said.
