Tehran, June 25 (RIA Novosti) - A nuclear power plant being built in Iran by Russian specialists complies with high safety standards, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi said Sunday.
Persian Gulf Arab states have repeatedly expressed their concerns over the Bushehr nuclear power plant being built in the south of Iran, saying it could pose an environmental threat to the region.
Asefi said the Bushehr NPP complied with high safety standards confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency and, therefore, there was no cause for concern.
Asefi added that Iran was allocating large funds for the NPP's safety.
Russian specialists are completing the construction of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which is expected to be launched in late 2006.
