KIEV, June 27 (RIA Novosti, Olga Bernatskaya) - Pro-presidential bloc Our Ukraine has put forward Petro Poroshenko, a businessman and former secretary of Ukraine's Security Council, as its candidate for parliamentary speaker, a representative said Tuesday.
"Our Ukraine made a decision at a session of the parliamentary faction Tuesday to nominate the candidacy of Petro Poroshenko," Tatyana Mokridi told RIA Novosti.
Other possible candidates included former secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Anatoly Kinakh, and former head of the parliamentary committee on corruption Vladimir Stretovich.
Mokridi said the vote was democratic, as Stretovich had withdrawn his candidacy in favor of Poroshenko and called for unity among all other parties making up the bloc.
