Ukraine's opposition Party of Regions disagrees with coalition majority proposals and will keep blocking the work of the country's parliament, a party member said Wednesday.
KIEV, July 5 (RIA Novosti, Vladimir Suprun) - Ukraine's opposition Party of Regions disagrees with coalition majority proposals and will keep blocking the work of the country's parliament, a party member said Wednesday.

About 15 members of the pro-Russia party led by Viktor Yanukovych have been blocking the rostrum after the "orange" trio of the pro-presidential Our Ukraine bloc, the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and the Socialists formed a coalition and agreed on nominees for the posts of prime minister and parliamentary speaker.

"We disagree with the terms on the resumption of the [Supreme] Rada's work and will block its work until the end," Lyudmila Kirichenko told journalists.

She said that while the opposition wanted to chair at least 10 parliamentary committees according to the principle of proportional representation in the Rada, it had only been offered the opportunity to create several new commissions with controlling functions.

"This does not suit us," the MP said.

Another party member, Taras Chernovol, accused prime minister-designate Tymoshenko of frustrating the agreements reached Tuesday at a meeting between the three coalition parties, the opposition and President Viktor Yushchenko.

"We almost resolved all disputable issues, including those on the distribution of committees, but Tymoshenko deliberately frustrated them, forwarding the idea of establishing extra commissions not covered by regulations," he said.

Chernovol said his faction considered Tymoshenko's move as a provocation.

The Party of Regions gained the most seats in the Rada (186) after the March 26 elections, but was frozen out of negotiations between the three Western-leaning parties, which have an overall 243 seats.
