Israel does not support a Russian initiative to hold an international conference on Mideast conflict resolution, the Israeli foreign minister said Friday.
TEL AVIV, September 8 (RIA Novosti) - Israel does not support a Russian initiative to hold an international conference on Mideast conflict resolution, the Israeli foreign minister said Friday.

Israel does not believe that all issues of comprehensive settlement should be considered as a whole, which means Israel does not support the idea of the conference, Tzipi Livni said, commenting on the proposal made by the Russian foreign minister on Thursday during talks with the Lebanese leadership.

But Russia's foreign minister, currently on an official visit to Tel Aviv, said Friday an international conference on the Middle East peace process was impossible without Israel.

"Russia supports the idea of such a conference, but for this idea to be translated into reality, of course, it needs to be accepted by all countries concerned, including Israel," Sergei Lavrov said.

"We will continue to discuss our standpoints on how best to achieve peace and stability in the region," he said.

Russia is one of four mediators in the Middle East peace process - along with the United States, United Nations and European Union - known as the Quartet.
