BISHKEK, November 8 (RIA Novosti) - A standoff between opposition and government supporters is continuing in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, a RIA Novosti correspondent said Wednesday.

Opposition leaders Tuesday urged a rally, in which at least six people suffered in violent clashes, to end, saying that parliament had reached an agreement on constitutional reform that will see presidential powers curbed.

But MPs refused to approve a new draft Constitution Wednesday morning, opting to debate the proposals article by article on two readings.

Police are cordoning off an influx of government supporters in front of the parliament building from those backing the opposition, whose number has declined following Tuesday's announcement.
