TBILISI, January 29 (RIA Novosti) - High winds and snowstorms have hit Georgia, cutting off power supplies to about 95,000 people in eastern and western parts of the country, Georgian authorities said Monday.

The national power distribution company said maintenance and repair teams were working to resume power supplies, but that poor weather conditions were hampering their efforts.

It said power supplies would be restored to about 40,000 users by Monday evening, but that weather forecasts warned high winds and snowstorms would continue for at least another three days.

High winds of 35 m/sec also brought down power lines in northern Azerbaijan, leaving more than 80,000 people without electricity.

Meteorologists said the high winds should ease by Monday evening, but that heavy rain and snow would continue until Tuesday morning.
