MOSCOW, February 13 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's largest carmaker AvtoVAZ [RTS: AVAZ] has agreed with Jordan on a project to assemble Russian Lada cars in the Middle East country, the company said in a statement Tuesday.

The agreement was signed in the presence of King of Jordan Abdullah II and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is currently on an official visit to Jordan.

The agreement calls for the construction of an assembly plant in Jordan with an estimated annual production output of 30,000 cars and annual deliveries of at least 3,000 Russian cars to Jordan until the assembly plant is built, for sales to Middle East countries and Africa.

The company said in the statement that it views the agreement as an important contribution to Russian-Jordanian cooperation and as another step to increase the presence of Lada cars on foreign markets.

Last year, the company increased its exports by 10.7% compared to the previous year, and plans to increase exports to over 200,000 cars and assembly sets in 2007, comparing with 186,000 in 2006.
