Citing Pakistan's Oil and Gas Ministry, Indian media reported Friday that construction of the Pakistani section will begin by September 2009.
Pakistan will complete construction of its 655-kilometer (400-mile) section, worth $2.6 billion, by 2011, and the pipeline will be put into operation in 2014.
Iran has already started preparatory work to build a 1,100-kilometer (690-mile) section, worth $4 billion, which will later be connected with the Pakistani section.
India said in February it is also ready to begin work on its own 344-kilometer (215-mile) section, worth $0.6 million soon.
Referring to the U.S. Congress Foreign Affairs Committee, media reported that committee Chairman Tom Lantos recently submitted a draft law that could prevent oil and gas companies from taking part in the project.
The bill introduces additional restrictions on any projects involving cooperation with Iran whose cost exceeds $20 million. The bill also bans any nuclear cooperation between the U.S. and third countries, if the third countries cooperate with Iran in the development of nuclear power.
The Islamic Republic has been under extreme international pressure since it resumed uranium enrichment in January 2006, which some Western countries suspect is part of a covert nuclear weapons program.
Tehran has consistently denied the claims, insisting that its nuclear research is purely for electricity generation.
