General of the Army Sergei Smirnov, First Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), said Tuesday that the regional anti-terror agency was becoming "a real mechanism to expand cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and extremism within the SCO."
He said the agency's ninth meeting, to be held in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, March 29, would address the implementation of joint antiterrorism measures in the SCO and mechanisms for establishing a protected telecom system between relevant agencies within the organization.
In addition, Smirnov said, the meeting would consider a draft agreement on the training of experts and instructors for antiterrorism groups in SCO member-countries.
Smirnov said: "We will still have to harmonize national legislations on the fight against terrorism."
The Tashkent meeting of the regional anti-terror agency, which was set up in June 2004 to facilitate cooperation between the six SCO members in their fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, will gather representatives of the Special Services from all six member-nations.
