BAKU, March 28 (RIA Novosti) - Azerbaijan intends to double its oil output by 2010 compared to the 32.3 million tons (237.4 million bbl) of crude produced in 2006, the Azeri minister of industry and energy said Wednesday.
Azerbaijan holds vast oil and gas reserves in the Caspian Sea, which it exports to neighboring Georgia, Turkey and Europe. High world oil prices have contributed to the country's impressive GDP growth.
Natik Aliyev said that already this year Azerbaijan would produce 10 million tons (73.5 million bbl) of oil more than in 2006.
