BISHKEK, April 2 (RIA Novosti) - Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev has appointed a number of ministers to the new coalition government, the Kyrgyz presidential press service said Monday.

Bakiyev appointed Almaz Atambayev, leader of the Social-Democratic Party and a co-chairman of the For Reforms opposition movement, acting prime minister following the unexpected resignation of Azim Isabekov's Cabinet, formed in February.

On Friday, the parliament approved Atambayev as the country's prime minister. Bakiyev instructed Atambayev to form a coalition government that would include opposition members and radical oppositionists.

"Almaz Atambayev's nomination for prime minister is a genuine step in meeting opposition demands," Bakiyev said.

The president decreed that Turatbek Dzhunushaliyev, nominated by the premier, be appointed emergencies minister, and that the country's former Central Election Commission chairman Tuigunaaly Abdraimov become the new health minister.

Late last week Atambayev said the government would have been formed by Monday and that its composition would be 40% different. He said he would be able to persuade his former allies to work together.

None of Kyrgyz opposition members has so far agreed to enter the new coalition government, which already has 11 key ministers, Omurbek Tekebayev, the former speaker of the parliament, said Monday.

"Many people said we would shut up and calm down if we were offered ministerial portfolios, but you can see that this has not happened," Tekebayev said. "We do not need official positions. We want real reforms in the country and we do not wish to be cogs in the corruption machine."

Tekebayev said with confidence that the new prime minister "will not be able to change the vicious system of government."

Tekebayev said that protests scheduled for April 9 and 11 would go ahead as planned, despite the government's steps to reach a compromise.
