BBC correspondent Alan Johnston, 44, was abducted by gunmen after leaving his office on March 12. On Sunday, The Brigades of Tawheed and Jihad, a previously unknown group, disseminated leaflets saying it had executed the reporter in demand for the release of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.
"We have no information confirming the announcement made by the unknown group in the leaflet," PNA Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh told a news conference.
"We will make all possible efforts to ensure Alan's release," the PNA official said.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called April 12 for the immediate release of the
BBC journalist, who has lived and worked in Gaza on a permanent basis for the last three years.
Several foreign journalists and aid workers have been abducted by gunmen in the Palestinian enclave on the Israeli territory in the past two years, but none of them has been held captive for more than a few days before.
