Eight people died in the east of Gaza City in an attack Sunday night on the home of Khalil al-Hayya, a leader of the Palestinian militant group Hamas and lawmaker, local radio said. Only two of the dead were Hamas members.
Palestinians also said Israeli tanks firing on the town of Beit Lahia in northern Gaza shot and killed a boy. More than 20 people have been killed in Israeli attacks on suspected arms production facilities and command and control centers in Gaza after 130 rocket attacks on Israel's southern district in the last five days.
Israeli military said they were targeting militants, adding they were checking reports on casualties.
Israel moved earlier Sunday to step up pinpoint attacks on Gaza targeting militant leaders behind the rocket attacks on Sderot, where 15 people have been wounded and hundreds have fled their homes.
The decision came as Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah called a new truce Saturday and exchanged hostages with Egyptian mediation; ending almost a week of fighting which saw more than 50 people dead.
