TOKYO, May 31 (RIA Novosti) - Ten people on board a Dutch passenger plane en route to Japan received light injuries when the airliner flew into a zone of severe turbulence over Russia's Far East, Japan's transport ministry said Thursday.

A ministry representative at Kansai International Airport, where the plane successfully landed after the incident, said the Boeing-777 belonging to Dutch airline KLM was carrying 14 crewmembers and 262 passengers.

The injured, three Dutch crewmembers and seven Japanese passengers, were scalded by toppled hot drinks, or suffered light neck sprains.

Passengers said later in interview with Japanese television channel NHK that the crew had warned of the turbulence, but the extent of buffeting the plane received was unexpected.
