Greenpeace activists tried to break through to G8 summit by sea
Topic: G8 summit in Germany
On Wednesday, protesters of the G8 summit in Heiligendamm blocked the small-gauge railroad, the only way to get from the media center in the neighboring town of Kuehlungsborn, where all security checks are carried out, for about four hours. During that time, journalists had to be ferried to the summit venue by boat.
The spokesman said boats carrying Greenpeace activists set out Thursday afternoon across the Baltic Sea, and 11 of them are currently waiting by a security cordon while several have managed to break through.
A spokesman for one of the special service detachments maintaining security at the summit denied reports that several boats managed to break through the security cordon, adding that all protesters had been stopped.
