U.S. Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns said last week that his country had irrefutable evidence that Iran supplied Afghanistan's Taliban guerillas with arms, claiming that NATO had intercepted one of the weapons batches.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mahdi Safari said: "Such allegations are so groundless and irrational that after assessing them, independent representatives and groups from both countries [Iran and Afghanistan] deemed them not to be credible."
He said Iran's position is to support Afghanistan's revival and the restoration of peace and stability in the country.
The Iranian diplomat suggested that international forces in Afghanistan had trumped up such allegations in order to cover up misfortunes in their unsuccessful anti-terrorism campaign.
