BRUSSELS, June 21 (RIA Novosti) - Ukraine's president said Thursday he has issued instructions to invite EU observers to monitor snap parliamentary elections scheduled for September 30.
"I have instructed the Foreign Ministry to send invitations to European institutions to monitor parliamentary elections September 30," Viktor Yushchenko said following a meeting in Brussels with EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
The Ukrainian leader is also expected to meet with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso later Thursday.
Yushchenko, his pro-Russian archrival, Viktor Yanukovych, and parliamentary speaker Oleksandr Moroz agreed May 27 to hold snap elections in a bid to end a protracted political crisis in Ukraine.
