Iran denies minister talked about '100 kg of enriched uranium'

21:08 22/06/2007
MOSCOW, June 22 (RIA Novosti) - Iran's Interior Ministry dismissed Friday a non-official Iranian media report that quoted the ministry's chief as saying the country has 100 kg of enriched uranium, official state news agency IRNA said.

ISNA, an agency run by Iranian university students, earlier claimed Mostafa Pourmohammadi made the remarks in a Thursday speech.

The Interior Ministry statement said the minister "highlighted Iran's progress in producing uranium hexafluoride UF6, but did not say anything about the amount of enriched uranium or the number of centrifuges installed in [Iranian nuclear center] Natanz."

The ministry called upon international media to use information received from unofficial Iranian sources with particular caution.
