GAZA, June 29 (RIA Novosti) - Israeli authorities released a Russian cardiologist Friday, who was arrested earlier this month by the Israeli army during a special operation on the Gaza Strip.

Cardiologist Abu Snein Sami Jaber, who was arrested June 10 during Israel's special operation, said in an interview with RIA Novosti that his interrogators wanted information about Israeli Corporal Gilad Shalit, who was captured in June 2006 by Palestinian militants.

"The accusations were unclear," he said. "Allegedly, Palestinian militants dug a tunnel on property, which I sold three years ago, to infiltrate Israeli territory and capture Shalit. What would I know about this? I sold the land a long time ago."

Abu Snein received Russian citizenship when he was living and studying in Russia's southern Krasnodar Region, where he married his wife Yelena Moiseyeva, a Russian national. After the marriage they both moved to the Gaza Strip to live.

The released doctor added that he had not been tortured during his time in custody, but had been interrogated a lot.

"I was not tortured or humiliated," Abu Sneit said. "I was treated like the rest. They put a bag over my head and interrogated me for seven or nine hours at a time."
