ABU DHABI, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - Some students succeeded in disrupting their final exams by adding henbane, a plant with anesthetic properties, to examiners' tea at a school in Yemen's Lahaj province, the newspaper Al Ayyam reported.
In keeping with tradition, 12 inspectors from the province's education department gathered before the examination to discuss the procedures over tea. Soon after, they began to feel sleepy and dizzy and were hospitalized when they fell unconscious. Two students who drank the tea were also affected.
A probe later revealed that henbane seeds had been added to the teapot.
The department of popular education said the poisoning had probably been aimed at lulling the examiners, who monitor cheating during school exams.
