BERLIN, July 4 (RIA Novosti) - A German national, who disappeared last week in southwest Afghanistan, could have been abducted by local drug dealers, a German news channel said Wednesday citing sources in the special services.

German television news channel 24 said the governor of Nimroz province, where allegedly the German national disappeared, also believed he had been abducted either by the Taliban or drug dealers, adding that in his opinion this was a criminal rather than a politically motivated incident.

Martin Jaeger, a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, said earlier that his compatriot disappeared on June 28, but declined to name the man for security reasons.

He added that the missing German was not working for a governmental organization or charity in Afghanistan, and was not a journalist.
