Germany's famous Hugo Boss kicked off the event with a Spring/Summer 2008 show at the Russian embassy at the Brandenburg Gate in central Berlin.
In an interview with RIA Novosti the Hugo Boss board chairman, Bruno Saelzer, said there were currently 18 Hugo Boss boutiques in Moscow alone, and the company, which has outlets in 20 Russian cities, was planning to enlarge its presence in Russia.
Saelzer said Russia was ranked sixth-seventh among Hugo Boss' top ten global customers.
"We believe we are making good progress in Russia which has a great deal of potential," Saelzer said.
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin will run until Sunday and feature 11 fashion shows by such fashion legends as Viviene Westwood and Gabriele Strehle, as well as young talented designers.
