Fifteen killed in road crash in northwest Kazakhstan

ASTANA, August 5 (RIA Novosti) - Fifteen people have been killed and another five injured after a car collided with a minivan in the Aktyubinsk region in northwestern Kazakhstan, the emergencies ministry of the Central Asian republic said Sunday.

The road accident occurred Saturday night at the 98th kilometer (61st mile) of the Aktyubinsk-Astrakhan highway when a VAZ car collided with a Gazel minivan carrying passengers, the ministry's press office said.

As a result of the collision, the minivan fell into a ditch and burst into flames, the press office said.

"Fifteen passengers of the minivan died at the scene of the accident. Their identity has not yet been established," the press office said.

The minivan's other three passengers who received various injuries, and also the driver of the VAZ car and his passenger were hospitalized, the press office said.
