CAIRO, August 8 (RIA Novosti) - The presidents of Egypt and the Palestinian Authority will meet in Alexandria Wednesday for talks focusing on ending the economic blockade on the Palestinian territories and preparing for a Mideast summit.
Egypt's Hosni Mubarak has joined other moderate Arab states in supporting Mahmoud Abbas since radical Islamist group Hamas seized the Gaza Strip in June, forcing the president to form an emergency government in the West Bank.
The Palestinian leader's visit to the Egyptian Mediterranean city comes two days following his first meeting in the West Bank with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. At the talks in Jericho, Olmert called for a swift resumption of negotiations on establishing a Palestinian state.
Mubarak and Abbas are also likely to discuss a Middle East conference proposed by U.S. President George W. Bush, likely to be held in November.
